Rhino completed an exciting project for Stantec across two floors of Bank House in central Birmingham. The project aimed to transform Stantec’s office environment to better reflect the changes in work dynamics post-pandemic and to create a more versatile and engaging workspace for their staff.
The primary driver for Stantec’s office redesign was the need to adapt to the evolving work environment. The organisation wanted to move away from a traditional office layout to one that supported flexibility, collaboration, and employee well-being. This included creating informal meeting spaces, breakout areas, and integrating acoustic design elements. Stantec wanted a workspace that would not only encourage staff to return to the office, but also to promote a sense of community and collaboration among the 60 employees spread across two floors.
Understanding the brief and challenges presented by Stantec, Rhino Interiors proposed an office design that emphasised flexibility and inclusivity. Key elements of the proposal included:
Informal meeting spaces: These were created by using acoustic design and furniture options to create quiet zones and informal meeting areas.
Flexible workstations: Height-adjustable desks were incorporated, catering to different work preferences and needs.
A centralised kitchen is positioned at the heart of the office to serve as a communal hub where employees can gather and interact.
To reinforce corporate identity and create a cohesive aesthetic, Stantec’s brand colours were used throughout the space.
One of the main challenges faced during the project was to ensure the new office layout would be functional and flexible, accommodating different working styles. Another challenge was integrating the design elements to promoted a ‘neighbourhood’ feel, while still maintaining professional functionality. Additionally, the project had to be executed within a tight timeframe to minimise disruption to Stantec’s operations.
The new Stantec office exudes a modern and welcoming atmosphere, characterised by its vibrant use of colour and thoughtful design elements. Key features include:
Vibrant seating areas with bright orange chairs and sofas in the reception and lounge areas not only create a warm and inviting first impression, but also maintain Stantec’s brand identity.
Stylish acoustic booths in shades of green and grey provide private spaces for focused work or small meetings.
Open areas with high tables and chairs encourage spontaneous collaboration and social interaction.
Modern conference rooms equipped with the latest technology offer a professional setting for formal meetings and presentations.
Stantec’s new space has successfully met its objectives, creating a flexible and engaging workspace that supports both individual and collaborative work. Employees have responded positively to the new environment, appreciating the versatile workstations and the central kitchen that enhances a sense of community. The new office layout not only encourages productivity but also aligns with Stantec’s vision of a modern and adaptive workplace.
This collaboration between Rhino and Stantec has resulted in a dynamic office space that effectively meets the needs of a post-pandemic workforce, encouraging employees to return to the office and engage with their colleagues.
