Eon Solihull

Driven by a shared commitment to reduce environmental impact, this project set out to create a workspace that champions both people and planet. Every design decision was guided by sustainable thinking – from material selection and energy efficiency to the reuse of existing furniture and fittings. The result is a modern, responsible workplace that delivers long-term value without compromise on style, comfort or functionality.

Initial Drivers

Eon were merging several office locations into a single, cohesive workplace spread across four floors. The aim was to create a modern, flexible and collaborative environment that would appeal equally to those relocating from other sites and to existing staff already based in the building. The design needed to foster connection, inclusivity and pride, ensuring every area felt considered and consistent, without hierarchy or imbalance in quality or investment.

Proposal

Rhino proposed a holistic design strategy focused on flexibility, inclusivity and sustainability. The workplace was reimagined to include a balance of open collaboration areas, quiet focus spaces for one or two people, and meeting rooms of various sizes. New amenities, including upgraded toilets, modern shower facilities and a multi-faith prayer room were designed to enhance comfort and wellbeing. Coffee points were reconfigured as vibrant social hubs, carefully planned for accessibility and ease of movement. Sustainable thinking was embedded throughout the project, from acoustic performance and material selection to the reuse of existing furniture and fittings wherever possible.

Key Challenges

The project had a very tight programme, with critical areas like the reception accessible only outside normal working hours. Coordinating these works while maintaining business continuity required meticulous planning and strong collaboration between teams. In addition, the existing mechanical systems were retained and upgraded, requiring sensitive design coordination to achieve both aesthetic and performance goals. Ensuring consistent quality across varied departments while staying within budget, added further complexity.

Look & feel

The new workplace delivers a contemporary, professional and welcoming atmosphere throughout. Each floor has its own character, yet all are united through a consistent design language, balancing texture, tone and materiality to create harmony across diverse spaces. Soft finishes, biophilic touches and carefully chosen accent colours introduce warmth and vibrancy. Accessories such as artwork, cushions and throws add comfort and individuality. The transformed reception now offers a true sense of arrival, featuring a dramatic preserved green wall, a striking feature light installation and a beautifully detailed, functional welcome desk.

The result

The completed Eon workplace is a bright, welcoming and future-ready environment that supports a wide range of working styles and neurodiversity. It has successfully brought together teams from multiple former locations, creating a unified community within a modern, inspiring setting. The consistent design language, inclusive amenities and sustainable choices have been highly praised by both management and staff. Delivered on time and to a demanding programme, the project stands as a strong example of Rhino’s ability to deliver thoughtful design that meets complex operational needs without compromise on quality or creativity
